once upon a fic letter [2017]

My username on AO3 is bigsunglasses.
First, a quick guide to my tastes. I want to be left happy or optimistic at the end of a story - please, no endings that are bitter or sad. I also prefer fics with some action or interaction, rather than ones that are just one character reflecting/introspecting.
Do not want.
Pregnancy loss, or difficulties. Rape or dub-con. Character death (referencing a canon death in passing is fine, someone dying in the fic is not). Terminal illness. Infidelity. Explicit torture. Gore. Gaslighting. Humiliation. Incest.
Lovelist.
Worldbuilding. Exploring culture & cultural differences. History. Friendship. Fluff. Cooking and savoury food. Ecology - nature & wildlife in general (also the seaside, lakes, rivers). Adventure. Loyalty. Protectiveness. Going undercover. Secret identities. Themes of truth & justice. Working to build happiness with an imperfect set of cards. Sacrifice rewarded. Blossoming romance. Established OTP taking on the plot. Creating and building things (families, meals, cities, houses, books, whatever...). Physical touch: brushing hair, holding hands, massages, etc. Hurt/comfort. Some favourite romantic tropes: we-only-kissed-to-provide-a-diversion-it-meant-nothing-honestly, huddling-for-warmth, pretend!dating, marriages-of-convenience/arranged-marriages.
Smut.
If the muse moves you towards smut, go for it! But I'd love there to be at least some plot or framing story, rather than outright PWP. I'm not really interested in reading sex for sex's sake, but in reading how and why particular characters do sex. Be as explicit or not as you want. I don't go for kink.
Finally, for this particular exchange I am 100% up for any AU settings that might strike your fancy. A generation spaceship! Tenth-century Seoul! Contemporary setting! I will also be completely delighted with no fancy setting at all but a fairy-tale feel, so please don't worry if AUs aren't your thing.

Allerleirauh | All-Kinds-Of-Fur (Fairy Tale) (Story here!)

This story can go to dark places. I'm happy for you to explore that darkness, but please finish on a lighter note - I don't enjoy unrelieved grimdark.
There's an interesting contradiction in how Allerleirauh seem simultaneously interested in and scared of the king who finds her in the forest. She drops things in his soup, yet flees the ball. It's understandable given her history, but how does it feel to live through being attracted but afraid of the attraction? And what's the attraction based on? What's their romance like? And how does she reveal the horror of her past to her new husband? Does she ever seek any kind of revenge/justice against the king her father? Or does he ever come to hear of his daughter, established and happy elsewhere, and if so how does he react? Does he still desire her?
Little Brother and Little Sister - Brothers Grimm (Story here!)
Characters: Little Brother (Little Brother and Little Sister), Little Sister (Little Brother and Little Sister)
Little Brother comes across as rather stupid - there's really no kinder way to put that. I'm always amazed by his sister's patience. Why does he have such an urge to run with the hunt? Is he secretly desperately unhappy as a deer? And, human again, what is life like for him after the end of the fairy tale?
What is the relationship like between the King and Little Sister? Unlike some fairy tales, they don't even dance together before he proposes. Her tie to life seems to be her baby, at the end. Indeed, I'd love to see an exploration of Little Sister's resurrection. If you'd like to explore it from the original Christian angle, I'd be happy; not being religious I'd be equally happy if you chose to explore that from any other perspectives.
The Well of the World's End (Fairy tale) (Story here!)

The Well of the World's End is such an amazing name, but we never learn why it's special - there's room for a story there. I also can't help but wonder if the prince had tried to get any other girls to unspell him before. If so, how far did they get? Right up until the whole bit with the axe? Does he think this girl is going to be different, and is he maybe kicking himself that he's ended up with a girl so daft she couldn't figure out how to carry water in a sieve? :) Or was she kicking herself for not thinking of it before? Is she delighted or horrified that she's ended up a princess? What's her story?
Also: "if you promise me to do whatever I bid you for a whole night long". I'm totally up for a sexy retelling of this story (though not 100% porn, please - with feelings or worldbuilding or action or something else in play too).
The Wood Maiden (Fairy Tale) (Story here!)
Characters: Any
I would love to know more about wood maidens in general, or this Wood Maiden in particular. How do they choose their dancing partners, why did she pick Betushka? Why does she like to dance? Why does she give gifts? What does she do the rest of the time? Are any of the people she dances with special, or is it three dances and that's it?
For Betushka, it would be interesting to see in more detail how her life changed as a result of this. Does she regret that nothing can ever make her so happy again as that dancing, even though she now has no material lack?
I'm also up for anything shippy you might like to write between these two, whether short-lived and bittersweet - or maybe you'll change the ending, so that Betushka and the Wood Maiden do meet again!
